Alex Miller, a 6th grader, just returned from a visit to Florida. The purpose of his visit was to watch a family friend, Eric Boe, go up in space. Alex was interested when watching the shuttle. Alex says the pilots have to sit for a long time until returning to ground. Alex was once in SEMA but it is finished. Alex wouldn't like to be an astronaut because there is no oxygen or gravity in space and it's cold.
In other news, two sisters at Camino are advocagtes for animals outside of school. the first sister, Brook, is in 6th grade. She volunteers Saturdays and shows dogs for adoption. Brook signed her sister up to volunteer. Her sister learned to love volunteering as well. People at the Humane Office email Brook times and dates she can volunteer. Anyone can sign up if they are over 13 years old. If you're under 13 you need an adult to go with you. Brook volunteers because she has a strong feeling for dogs. She also likes the variety of animals at the shelter like horses, bunnies, and cats. A dream of Brook's is to become a vet. When she asked to go to work for her family vet, the vet said not until she was 16 and suggested volunteering instead. The vet gave her details for volunteering around town.
Now lets talk about her sister Blair. Blair is in 7th grade at Camino. She is also an advocate for animals because it is fun and she thinks it is cool. The biggest message she would like to get across to people about animals is that people at the animal shelter need their help. Animal treatment takes time. A dog has to get used to the owner and the owner gets used to the dog. A new shelter would be a good change for animals, she said. If you're interested in volunteering, you can sign up at the Farmer's Market on Saturdays.
