Mrs. Armijo is an 8th grade language arts teacher here at Camino Real. She's also an actress in local theater. She's currently practicing her script for her upcoming play, "Single and Proud". This play is about singles dating in New York and Mrs. Armijo stars in this play with three other actors. This show plays at the Las Cruces Community Theater on October 25th.
When it comes to acting, "It's the greatest thing ever," Armijo said. She likes to stay in a play as often as she can. She started acting when she was in first grade. She was in "Jack and the Beanstalk" and she was a magical Mexican jumping bean. When people laughed at what she did, it seemed like the thing she was supposed to do with her life. Acting is something she does for herself, she says.
To get into a play, Armijo goes online and puts her name on a list. When shows are available, an email is sent to her with a script and scenes. Her favorite play is "Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare. She has taught this play and been in it as well. Her favorite part of acting is when she nails every line and gets it right.
Mrs. Armijo has been in about 20 plays. Her newest play will be her fourth play in Las Cruces. Sometimes she acts at the Black Box Theater. Other plays she's been in are "Baby with the Bathwater" and "What I Did Last Summer".
